Ten Tips for Citing All David’s Sources For Him

If in David’s Unapproved Comments a common complaint was things were quoted but not even attributed to anybody like “Who is it saying this? It’s quoted but I don’t know who is saying this???” or “You aren’t Virgil you know. This isn’t 50 B.C. Everyone hasn’t read everything and can be expected to know where it’s from!” then having some College English training from Centennial College in the academic necessity of APA citation, I have gone back and retroactively cited as many sources as I could detect in all blogs up to and including this one. I undertook significant efforts to put these citations in PROPERLY, even if they're not all that meaningful to the reader or don't appear quite so proper as they really are.

One: I did this mostly by Googling the things in quotes. Sometimes the source came right up and I easily cited it using a citation generator.

Two: Other times I had to spend many hours tracking things down. I only emailed reference librarians when absolutely necessary because I know David hates reference librarians and wouldn’t want them getting involved in his life’s work.

Three: Sometimes Dave would reference having referenced something but no reference was there so what was he even talking about? I then had to search every two-word phrase in the above paragraphs. When he said something that was obviously some phrase from somewhere I tried to Google the phrase. Maybe some of these phrases are known to people who’ve read the stuff David leafed through so please alert me in comments if they don’t require citation at all. When he at least made an effort to cite authors I didn’t cite them in the bibliography because I was usually pretty tired after working all day.

Four: During the hardest times I wondered why David didn’t just cite his sources as he went along, when he had the books right in front of him. It would have made it easier for him and for me. It’s ironic because one of his favourite Bob Dylan lyrics was, “If you want to remember you better write down their names. ”111 But then he didn’t even write down many names.

Five: I then reminded myself that David never liked for things to be easy or pleasant or like the way normal people like things and that was just part of who he was.

Six: When words seemed weird I Googled the words to see if they obviously came from somewhere and required APA citation. Some of the weird words turned out not to be words at all. They were words he had made up. I couldn’t find an APA policy regarding made-up words. I couldn’t find APA 111 (Dylan, Murder Most Foul, 2020) policy regarding using a plus sign (+) instead of the word plus so I left this in even though most people probably find it annoying and it hurts his life’s work maybe more than it helps it. For this same reason I have also left David’s erratic hyphenations intact though I believe they are mostly reckless whims that don’t adhere to any style guide that anyone at r/editors could refer me to.

Seven: I did not make clarifications when he made inaccurate statements regarding me or quoted me as saying things I never would have said. Same with many factual errors I found. I knew it was imperative to stay true to the source material because David used to rant and rave about Kabbalistic language codes embedded in the blog and I wouldn’t want to mess up any of the codes by changing something I didn’t say back to something I actually did say or changing something nonfactual to something factual. I did however risk messing up the Kabbalistic language code when he was being too hard on himself.

Eight: Some ideas that I recognized from podcasts we’d listened to were NOT in quotes. I cited these too, as suggested by the Purdue Owl website. Same for episodes of TV shows and movies and songs.

Nine: This made me worry that some of David’s ideas weren’t David’s ideas but from places other than podcasts that obviously I would never recognize. If anyone recognizes any ideas not original to David and not from a podcast please let me know in the comments so I can cite those too. If you don’t see your comment in the comments it’s not because I deleted it. It’s because David didn’t approve many

comments so I want to play it safe by approving 0 comments on his life’s work as he called it to avoid accidentally approving the wrong comment which might mess up the Kabbalistic language code.

Ten: Anyways I’d appreciate readers pointing out any stolen ideas because I wouldn’t want David arrested for plagiarism while in his impaired condition and not even able to defend his work as “collage” or “the blues tradition” or “the ecstasy of influence” or whatever he would claim in court if he could. Readers who don’t care about proper APA citation like Dave didn’t should skip the following bibliography blog.
